I’m Matt Vogel, a Chicago-based production sound mixer and location recordist specializing in high-profile multicam interviews, travel documentaries, commercials, and livestreams. Driven by a deep passion for international travel and storytelling, my sound work has taken me to over 70 countries around the world.
Prior to getting into sound, I studied broadcasting in college and started my career as a production manager for a company that specialized in international documentary and television work. I was sending crews all over the world (who’d come back with fantastic stories) and I wanted to be the one out in the field with them. While I tried my hand at camera and lighting, production sound was a natural fit. Now I bring 25+ years of production sound experience to inform every production I work on. Beyond sound, I can add versatility to your crew (especially helpful for travel shoots) by being a licensed drone op and a certified scuba diver.
Great production sound is about more than clean levels; it’s about awareness, timing, and knowing how to move with the rhythm of a shoot. It’s about being reliable, adaptable, and invisible when needed. I show up prepared, stay flexible, and focus on supporting the story without getting in the way. I’ve always believed that versatility is one of the most valuable traits a sound mixer can bring to set. With a background in field producing and production management, I understand how the moving parts of a shoot come together.
